The Challenges of Achieving a Healthy Lifestyle
Today, people are more conscious of fitness and health. Just go online and you will find many online articles about the healthy lifestyle, the right kinds of food to eat, and any kind of info that you need on this subject matter. Despite of these literature and all the warnings given to us, there are still a lot of people who fail in their attempt at becoming fit and healthy. We have received plenty of warnings of eating high-calorie diets and engaging in harmful behaviors, yet we still eat these foods and engage in these behaviors. There are those that have given their best to do these things but have utterly failed. This indicates that achievivng a healthy lifestyle is a difficult thing to do which is also evidenced by the increasing stress-related sicknesses that people experience today. What could be the cause of this failure?
The problems lies in the desire of each individual to gratify himself. We don’t want to wait for a long time to see results but we want to ratify ourselves immediately after we have done something good. A lot of people today, if asked to choose between an instant reward over a better one promised in the future, will quickly choose the instant one. People can’t wait for a better reward in the future, and if there is something that they can get now, they will surely get it.
If we apply this to being healthy, the reality is that you cannot immediately feel the effects or the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle. People know what is good for them; the problem is that they don’t want to give up on the nice things which will only results in an unhealthy lifestyle. You don’t do your dieting and exercising even though you know it is good for you since you will not see any benefit immediately. The failure of many people in achieving the healthy lifestyle is because of this.
The best solution to this problem is to apply the element of instant gratification to your health plan. We all have the ability to gain benefits from a healthy lifestyle and to lay aside instant gratification. Gratification perception can be overcome in different ways. But, you can actually try some methods to help you overcome this. One of the ways you can do it is by adding a bit of instant gratification to your health plan. Just to give you motivation to help you achieve your health goals, you can reward yourself every time you achieve a goal on your healthy living plan. You can start reducing rewards as you get used to your new habits.
Rewarding yourself with food is a no-no. These things can get you past the need for instant gratification.
